Beard of the Iris
Looking for all the world like a colony of sea creatures you'd expect to find at the Monterrey Aquarium; here is an intimate peek at the Beard of an Iris. Consider purchasing a few dozen of these as blank greeting cards in the Merchandise section after the Buy Button for writing personalized holiday messages and acknowledging life's milestones or events. Thanks in advance!

Lichen Forest
This miniature forest of Lichen is growing on the north facing ironwood handrail leading down to our backyard garden from the elevated deck off the kitchen.

Calla Lily Detail
I imagine this is what the inside of the Calla Lily flower would look like to the tiny bug (aphid?) in the upper left if he were wearing a GoPro helmet mounted camera .

Passionfruit Flower
Grew this from a seed, the plant has struggled for the past three years but is now thriving and blooming at every leaf node. The intricate flowers only open for one day. Looking forward to the tropically fragrant sorbet Kelly makes from the ripe fruit.

That's No Moon !
Innocent yummy nutritious Blueberries stand ready to switch on their tractor beams of irresistible home grown goodness not so long ago in a garden not very far away. We pick a pint every few days for a couple of weeks in season from our two small bushes.

Lophocampa maculata agassizii (Spotted Tussock Moth larva)
Found this interesting creature munching happily on a leaf of my Stella Cherry. Since they only breed one generation per season I let this tiny fuzzball live and only shot it with my camera !

Dragonfly (Darner) on Rocoto
While documenting the season's first picking of Rocoto Hot Peppers I chanced upon this impressive Dragonfly just hanging out. California has many types of these beauties, I think it may be a Darner. Anyone out there with a more precise identification? Where would you mount a big print of my image rendered on canvas?

Grainy Image
We have a half whiskey barrel sized clay planter, home to a pair of antique ceramic chickens rescued from a deceased neighbor's discards, up on the porch. Growing here is Cat-Grass, a mix of grains, mostly Oats. Our fur children love to nip the tender young leaves, and then come inside to occasionally puke it all up, yuck. This Grainy Image portrays a drying seed head which I'll use to start the next batch. Photo processed with filters from the Google Nik Collection.

Last Meal of the Condemned
When Kelly called out to me in the garden this day, her tone of voice was more like "Get the shotgun Zeke, there's a burglar in the root cellar" rather than the "eeek, a mouse" you might expect. Kelly is understandably protective about the mushroom bed I built, and new flushes of fruiting bodies always bring a smile. So, you can imagine the indignant "come here and look at this" when she discovered this Jabba the Hutt wannabe lazing on its side while chowing down on the brown oyster mushrooms she had been planning to gather for our stir fry dinner that evening. Needless to say, after posing for a farewell image this really big slug was dispatched to mollusc heaven with prejudice.
